#257: Christmas Special

from 1912 Exiles

Ian, Rhys, Alfie & Ed assembled for a festive recording, seeking to fulfil their promise of an episode free from County-related misery and to bring some light relief to a traumatic season. Over the course of an hour, they discuss: what Christmas presents you'd buy for past Newport County players; quirky stories about football at Christmas; what we'd do if we were the ghosts of Christmas past / present / future; the best loan players or most under-rated players we've seen in a County shirt - oh, and then Rhys finishes things off with an anagram quiz, only for us to realise most of them were wrong...We'd welcome your thoughts, as always, so do contact us via your social media platform of choice. If you like what we do as a podcast and want to support it, please visit our Ko-Fi page and throw us a few pennies. Thanks to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme tune, and to the Riverside Sports Bar (the home of great sport and burgers in Newport) for their support of the pod.Hopefully this is the perfect festive listening as you embark on a long car journey down to your in-laws' on Christmas Eve, enjoy. Have a wonderful break, look after yourselves and each other, and above all Keep It County. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

What's it all About?Join us, as we try to puzzle our way through and talk some smart-sounding smack about the intellectual giants of our age, from Jordan Peterson to Robin DiAngelo. Are they revolutionary thinkers or just grifters with delusions of grandeur? Join us and let's find out! In Darkest England and the Way Out by William Booth Mentor New York William Booth (1829 – 1912) was the founding General of the Salvation Army in late nineteenth century England. Finding his salvation as a teenager, he went on to become one of the most controversial and, ultimately, well-loved and respected social reformers of his day. Published in 1890 amidst the turmoil of the death of his beloved wife, Catherine, “In Darkest England” was hailed as a revolutionary approach to coping with the social ills facing Great Britain at the time. Although 130 years old, this revolutionary book of Victorian England still has much to say of note today. - Summary by Tom Hirsch
