FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/TheLighthouseProjectMiami/videos/2058095147819133/ Notes: https://www.dropbox.com/s/exu31ekkj73hsi7/26.%20Behar%205779%20-When%20G-d%20Says%20I%20Am%20G-d%20-Healing%20Our%20Pleasure%20Center.pdf?dl=0 -- Before I speak to you about this lecture’s modern-day issue, I would like to give you some statistics about addiction: (Statistics are provided in the notes for the addictions of Alcohol. Drugs, Food, Gambling, Porn and Sex.) I went through these statistics so that we understand that we are not speaking of an isolated small portion of society. Now, let’s talk about this lecture’s modern-day issue. Studies show that addiction has to do with the pleasure center of the brain being unhealthy, overworked, and “all lit up.” The addict creates synaptic connections in his brain, to the point where alcohol, drugs, food, sex, porn or gambling isn’t the problem, but the solution. To the addict, his addiction to every problem, emotion, from anxiety to depression to happiness. It is so, because the addict has evolved his pleasure center of his brain to be the most active and driving center of his brain, creating an unsustainable homeostasis of pleasure chemicals within his brain and body cells. Thus, the modern-day issue for this lecture is how to heal one’s pleasure center in his brain.(1) This lecture is based primarily on a maamor the Rebbe delivered on this Shabbat, in 1965, exploring the three levels of Shabbat and their power of pleasure. (1) Addiction demands a recovery program, and this lecture will NOT help an addict recover from his addiction. It is but a supplement for the addict in a recovery program, and for the non-addict to reformat their pleasure center, and to rewire their synaptic connections.
