#26 Ishanya Anthapur: Designing Products at the Intersection of Empathy and AI

from PreVetted Podcast · host Federico Ramallo

Ishanya Anthapur joins Federico Ramallo to explore how Zemplee’s camera-free sensors and Alexa integration empower caregivers, boost nurse productivity, and preserve the independence of older adults. She shares why her ecology background still shapes her product instincts, how a year of teaching honed her storytelling skills, and why empathy is the north star for every feature she ships. The conversation ranges from building trust with non-technical users to balancing rapid releases with HIPAA compliance—and even detours into the value of voluntary adventure for lifelong growth.Ishanya Anthapur is a mission-driven Technical Product Manager who thrives at the intersection of human connection, creative strategy, and execution. With a foundation in ecology and evolutionary biology from Princeton University and a career spanning education, healthcare, and technology, Ishanya brings a unique, people-centered lens to product development. Her professional journey began in the classroom, teaching fifth and sixth graders during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic — an experience that solidified her belief in designing for real-world impact. That commitment led her to Zemplee, an AI-powered health-tech startup reimagining elder care. Over the past three years, Ishanya has helped scale Zemplee’s patient-monitoring platform, leading cross-functional efforts in product requirements, system integration, and user-experience design.Curious by nature and driven by empathy, she sees technology not just as a tool, but as a medium for care, culture, and storytelling. Outside of work, Ishanya is a classically trained musician and composer, using music as a form of emotional generosity and expression. Her long-term ambition is to either build a business of her own or work in venture capital to support founders, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, in growing mission-led companies. With every role, she has explored how people connect—to each other, their identities, and the systems that shape their lives.Connect with Ishanya & Resources • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ishanya-anthapur-a7405a122/ • Zemplee Smart Properties: https://www.zemplee.com/solutions/smart-properties/ • Nir & Far Behavioral Design Resources: https://www.nirandfar.com/member-resources/About Federico Ramallo:Software Engineering Manager | Founder of DensityLabs.io & PreVetted.ai | Connecting U.S. teams with top nearshore LATAM engineers.- 💼 https://www.linkedin.com/in/framallo/- 🌐 https://densitylabs.io- ✅ https://prevetted.aiPreVetted Podcast:- 🎙 https://prevetted.ai/podcastCHAPTERS00:00 Introduction to Tech and Leadership01:31 From Ecology to Tech: A Career Journey03:52 Understanding Human Behavior in Tech05:57 The Role of Instant Gratification09:57 Finding Meaning in Products13:08 Zempley: A Solution for Caregivers13:36 Innovative Monitoring for Elders17:33 Balancing Privacy and Safety23:46 The Importance of Peace of Mind27:19 Real-Life Impact of Passive Monitoring32:42 Health and Wellness in Aging33:51 Data-Driven Conversations in Healthcare36:12 Quality of Life vs. Longevity38:44 Perspectives on Death and Dying40:47 The Importance of Adventure43:13 Growth Through Perspective Shifts48:01 Valuable Life Experiences49:04 Teaching Moments and Product Management53:02 Future Aspirations and Impact Investing
