26: Laurel Saville: Creating Worlds for Others to Enjoy
from The Artsy Now Show: Creative Entrepreneur Maniacs! · host Heath Armstrong
Laurel Saville is an award-winning author of numerous books, articles, essays, and short fiction. She is a teacher, a marketing and advertising guru, and a cancer survivor. Coming from an unconventional childhood, Laurel found refuge in books and libraries and there she found her spark as a writer. She shares that the best thing about writing is the ability to create worlds that others can find and enjoy. Writing novels and short stories isn't the easiest path to make a living, so she chased jobs that involved writing-public relations, marketing, brand development, advertising- as she believes that any type of writing can be a good ground in honing your craft in a variety of ways. Here are the highlights of my interesting conversation with Laurel: Going back to graduate school during her late 30s to spend more energy on her literary side. How she quit her job, all about her literary pursuits and how she lived her dream life though it entailed never knowing what the next day would bring or how much money she was going to make. The pros and cons about being a freelancer. Experiencing cancer and the most important thing it taught her: to be less tolerant, less forgiving, a little more selfish and make situations better for herself. Her habits, the steps she is taking to continually educate herself and the advantages of pursuing education. About her book, the 100 Habits of Successful Publication Designers: Insider Secrets for Working Smart and Staying Creative.
