At the beginning of the French Revolution, people were screaming, “Liberty, equality, fraternity,” and shortly thereafter came the guillotine. In Cambodia they were talking about an entire new generation of people and a society that was equal to all, and then came the killing fields. In Russia Stalin talked about, “From each according to his abilty to each according to his needs,” and then came the Gulags and twenty million dead people. Hitler told the Germans he was going to create the perfect society for them, but in order to do that he needed the ovens and a war that killed an enormous number of Germans. It appears that if we look at our history and we look at attempts by various countries to right their situation, in order for that to occur, it seems there is an enormous amount of destruction that goes on in this phase of righting their situation. Now, we as individuals also try to right our situations…
