Dear Parents, We’re going to have a great upcoming week. Below is a short description of what’s coming up and important links and/or announcements: Harvest Cup 2019 Tournament Dates December 6th-8th, 2019 Register Here by Monday October 21st (Tryouts to Follow TBA) Interested in Coaching? Email Mr. Gray - [email protected] 6th Grade Sweatshirt Order Form 6th Grade Guys Night- Thurs Oct 17, 6-8pm in MPR- RSVP Here Internet Safety Presented by Irvine PD- Tuesday, October 22nd from 2:35-3:35 RSVP Here DARE Graduation Monday October 28th, 1:30-2:30p in the MPR Reader’s Workshop The kids will continue exploring their characters as well as the characters in our read aloud: The Year of the Dog.We will close out the trimester finishing up our beginning of the year fiction unit by seeing more in ourselves and in our books. Writer’s Workshop We will begin a new unit on Opinion Writing in preparation for a later 6th grade unit on Argument Writing.. For this Unit students will begin by evaluating and ranking collections of their own that they bring to school. Then, we will write reviews, and finally write persuasive speeches. Math We will begin our next unit on Unit Rates and Percentages. This unit builds on what we were learning in the previous Ratios unit. See more about what we will learn here. Math Answers and Help Here. History We will begin our unit on Ancient Egypt. Ancient Egypt is so rich for study but we will focus on the GRAPES of Egypt looking at the Nile River and how it supported the Egyptian civilization and the relationship between religion and the social and political order. We will look at pyramids and mummies as well. Science The students will have time to research their science fair projects and will learn how to create a works cited list. Thank you, Mr. Gray
