#263 Good Plastic Surgery versus Bad Plastic Surgery with Dr. Nicholas Howland
from The Youngbloods · host The Youngbloods Podcast
I don’t want to say to much about this blog, because it’s just a great one to listen to about what it take to be a plastic surgeon. People seem to get the wrong idea on what someone chooses this profession. It was easy for Dr. Howland one day while sitting in class at the University of Utah and his biology teacher gave an example of how putting a bandaid on something heals it… and it clicked, that helping people is what he wanted to do in the medical field. SOme say surgeons are good for what they do, some say they are bad, make people, especially women look like something they shouldn’t For instance, Someone asked me If I was getting my augmentation for my husband, my response was true.. “NO, I’m doing it for me, because I feel self conscious with my looks” and really, it’s made me feel better about my body. Sitting down with Dr. Howland and speaking with him was like sitting down with the Van Gogh of the body. It takes someone who can look at someone and truly give an honest opinion on your wants and needs. He’s worked on Cheiloplasty, a cleft lip repair. and his hardest was a surgery for a new jaw… You will definitely have to listen to the podcast for how that’s done, it’s so incredible. Before pursuing his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah, Nicholas Howland successfully fulfilled a 2-year church mission to St. Petersburg, Russia. During that time, Dr. Howland was selected as the lead interpreter and coordinator for volunteer efforts in the world-renowned Hermitage Museum. This volunteer effort was during the 300-year celebration of the founding of St. Petersburg as a city, and Dr. Howland further developed a profound love and appreciation for art and the human form as he gave countless tours of the museum. A graduate of the University of Utah, he graduated cum laude with a degree in Business Administration and minors in Chemistry and Russian Literature. This was on top of the difficult pre-med pathway. He was early accepted into medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Recently, Dr. Howland along with his 2 children and his girl friends 3 children planned a surprise for Penny, his girlfriend. Taking a trip up the West coast, picking out the best spots to ask Penny to be his wife. I don’t want to ruin how that went, so you will have to listen to the podcast. Really, I could go on about how amazing Nicholas Howland is. How he gave me back confiance after having 5 kids. How he respects his patients or just how genuine he AND his staff is to everyone who comes in. If you’re looking or thinking about getting any work done, and you live in Utah, visit him! https://howlandplasticsurgery.com/
