264: Maine Runners of Stone Cat

from Cultra Trail Running · host Cultra Crew

Your in MAINE now, so you better shape up, lest we get some Gators on you! Chomp! Chomp! Stone Cat is back!! The Crew gets to hang out with four awesome people from Maine! Trail Monsters Running Club founder Ian Parlin tells us what it was like to run Stone Cat 50 Mile back in '07 and what is it like now. We also learn about the no nonsense service ethic of the Trail Monsters, where you cant just sign up, or buy your way in. You earn your claws by trail maintenance, and offering support to others. (support is good). And then if you show some promise, you just might be asked to officially join.  Trail Monster Tayna Holbrook shares her stories about the club, as well as how she has learned to cope with an allergic reaction to the cold.  The Cultra Crew fights over who gets to use the Epi Pen. Jake Chambers shares his story of finishing the Stone Cat 50 mile in a race where 50% did not make it to the finish line. He also shares his perspective as a new runner gaining experience and immersing himself in the Trail community. We finish the episode talking to the absolutely delightful Lila Gaudrault, who finished first overall in the inagural Stone Cat 100K finishing more than 3 hours faster than AFB who was running 50 mile.  Lila tells us what it was like to be a XC high school champion as a Sophomore and Junior then step away from XC in order to choose a longer path as she pursues Ultra Running.  She is so enthusiastic and eager to take on the challenges that longer distances offer, and we can't wait to watch it happen!   Special Thanks are also given to Patrick Caron and TARC for the efforts put forth to preserve and improve this classic event! Each episode is a reminder that no day—or conversation—is ever ordinary in our little corner of the world. XOXO, Fern Girlz Explicit Tales From The Rabbit Hole Mick West Tales from the Rabbit Hole is an interview-style podcast focusing on people whose lives have been affected by the conspiracy theory rabbit hole. Guests will include both former and current believers in a variety of conspiracy theories, as well as debunkers, skeptics, and the investigators of those theories. I’m Mick West, a debunker. I wrote the book Escaping the Rabbit Hole – How to Debunk Conspiracy Theories using Facts, Logic, and Respect. This book came from my experiences running Metabunk – a debunking forum. Over the years I realized simply presenting corrections to people is not enough. We need effective communication, and we can’t do that if we don’t listen to and talk with each other. I’m hoping this podcast will help bridge that gap. Explicit Nerd on the Street Kaori Akari and Jason Rayn Welcome to our block! Explicit Running In Slow Motion with Sidney & Tamra Smith You Hear Good Things podcast network Comedian Sidney Smith and his wife Tamra — a sharp-witted educator with a soft spot for flowers — team up to navigate life, goals, and culture at their own hilarious, at times, in-depth pace. They call it “running in slow motion,” and that pretty much sums up the vibe. This isn’t a marriage podcast (their union ranks a generous 5 out of 10, after all), but it is a refreshingly honest, smart, and funny take on relationships, ambition, and everyday chaos. From real talk to pop culture and unexpected interviews, it’s a joyride of relatable moments and laugh-out-loud observations. Explicit
