Nel Hofmeester ziet dyslexie niet zozeer als een stoornis, maar als een probleem van het onderwijssysteem dat niet op de behoeften van dyslectische leerlingen en studenten in kan spelen. Nel is Nederlands gaan studeren terwijl ze is opgegroeid in den gezin vol met dyslectici. Ze heeft als docente Nederlands gewerkt, maar al gauw heeft ze zich in dyslexie gespecialiseerd. Zij heeft veel over het onderwijs te vertellen.
