Most self-proclaimed Christians aim in life to be happy, thus requiring God to make them happy. These types of believers expect God to change His doctrines to match their morbid beliefs – particularly the ones that make them “un-happy” or uncomfortable. One of the most common used against God is the doctrines of divorce. Many of Christians in my office have made the statement that “God does not want me to be un-happy in this marriage.” With this morbid belief, comes a twisting of doctrines that surround the issue of divorce. They somehow believe that any marriage relationship or work situation or life-experience that hinders them from being happy is a violation of their happiness. This is a public episode.
