#270 - The Future of the Annual NAMM Show

from Business Side of Music · host The Business Side of Music Podcast

After a comprehensive year-long search, The NAMM Executive Committee and CEO Search Committee is pleased to announce industry veteran and music education advocate John Mlynczak is the new President and CEO of The National Association of Music Merchants. The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) has been around for the past 122 years). Simply put, if NAMM wasn't doing it, you would notice, but at the same time, you don't see NAMM helping the music manufacturing industry evolve and grow. With that, comes new membership opportunities, that not only include manufactures and retailers, but now provides an aspect that fits within the individual that works within the music business. John Mlynczak is now only the 4th CEO of the organization in the past 77 years. With that, he's had his hands full in addition to running the organization, but also rebooting the annual trade shows since Covid hit in 2020. The Global Pandemic simply shut down the Winter NAMM Show in January 2021 in Anaheim CA, along with the annual Summer show in Nashville TN. Since the reopening of public gatherings, the folks at NAMM have now worked to host three Winter NAMM Shows over an 18 month period. The most recent show had 50,000+ attendees visit the convention, and with 120 Countries being represented (and with 30% of attendees being international), it's still the largest global gathering of the music industry. John and his team are working to continue to build the brand that NAMM is known for, creating exciting trade shows, along with helping the music industry evolve into the 21st Century.
