271. All We Need Is Just A Little Patience

from No Bad Food · host Podcavern

ADDENDUM: At the time of recording, we were reflecting on the CAQ's decision to reopen schools and daycares in mid-May, and I added some perspective that, while it's definitely a scary idea, there's a case to be made that it might be necessary/a helpful service for some parents/students. Since this recording, there have been further developments, more information has come out, and, honestly, I'm not sure what I think anymore! I'm mad that we live in a place where the economy is being prioritized over the health and safety of our most vulnerable citizens. I'm frustrated and confused. Basically- the English school board here tried to oppose the reopening because of safety concerns, which should be their prerogative, and the CAQ more or less told them to shut up and behave. This is totally unacceptable and an abuse of power, and is entirely on brand for this pack of clowns we call a government. If you're in Quebec and have a minute today, please contact your local representative and make sure they know that forcing kids and teachers to go back to school before they're ready is Not Okay! There need to be clear strategies in place before people will feel comfortable being sent back to schools, and public health should be our priority- TZ This week, we're testing out a new remote group call format! The audio is exactly what you'd expect from that. Sorry! We're planning to do one of these per month, and have all the other episodes be our usual remote format (a series of one-on-one calls), and we're hoping to sort out a way to get a higher quality call next time. Anyway, enjoy this! It's fun! We get deep into the idea of personal growth during a pandemic, talking about whether or not we think people will be better when this is all over, and whether or not that even matters. Then, we talk about Quebec reopening elementary schools & daycares. Note from Tom: I spoke too soon when I said I'd have an event page up for that live stream by the time this comes out, because, it turns out, you can't schedule a live stream on Facebook more than a week in advance! But mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 13th at 5PM EST! I'll be hopping on a Facebook Live stream then to give a Podcasting 101 workshop! Even if you have no intention of starting one, I'd love to have you there for support/validation!
