In  rugby union – after the success of and momentum from, hosting the FIFA  World Cup, Qatar is looking to go big time hosting a one-off British  Lions Test plus a tournament in the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series. Meanwhile they are pulling down two of the stadiums and re-purposing a couple of others. In rugby league – while  the NRL Women’s salary cap has increased to A$884,000 per season, some  girls are pissed - Channel 7 reporter Katie Brown posted on Twitter:  “Lol “record breaking” deals for the NRL $12.1M and NRLW $884,000.  You’re giving a whole women’s team ONE man’s salary. What a joke.” ARLC  Chairman Peter V’landys said of the NRLW’s new and much higher salary  cap: “They’ve had the biggest increase of anyone. Don’t forget there are  10 teams, so we’ve invested heavily in the women’s game and rightly so.  It has still sparked an angry response from some. Another  angry chic, sports commentator Lavender Baj posted on Twitter: “For  context: Kalyn Ponga did not win a premiership for the Knights, but  makes more than the entire NRLW team that brought home the trophy for  the first time in two decades. OUCH. In  combat sports – UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar has died at the age of  45, leaving fighters and fans across the MMA community shattered. Bonnar  was a finalist on the first ever season of The Ultimate Fighter and was  credited by UFC Prez, Dana White as saving the promotion when he and  Forest Griffin stood toe-to-toe and unleashed at the end of a hellacious  fight during the season finale. No official cause of death has been released. In  football – the only player in history to have won three FIFA World Cups  - in 1958, 1962 and 1970 - Pele took the 1958 World Cup by storm when  he was only 17 years old, netting a hat trick in the semifinals and two  more goals in the final, catapulting his own career and launching the  dynasty of the Brazilian national team. Family  members spent Christmas with Pele at the Sao Paulo hospital where the  legendary footballer is battling worsening cancer as well as kidney and  heart problems. Considered by many to be the greatest of all time, Pele has been hospitalised since November. Long live the King of Football – Pele!
