28 Days Later

The Godfather trilogy is in the rearview mirror… and the streets are eerily empty. This week, Luke and Chris plunge into the infected, adrenaline-fueled nightmare of 28 Days Later (2002), kicking off a bold new franchise journey. They break down Danny Boyle’s genre-redefining horror film from scene one, discussing its radical production style, the haunting use of Winston Castle, Cillian Murphy’s iconic (if inconsistent) hair, and the raw emotional stakes at the heart of this apocalyptic story. Along the way, they dig into Alex Garland’s writing, the moral rot of Major West, and why the film’s second half feels like a descent into something even darker than zombies—us. Plus: behind-the-scenes facts, the real-world virus that inspired the story, and philosophical riffs from Nietzsche and Pauline Kael. The Famous Philosophers Review Modern Film segment returns. Next week: 28 Weeks Later. But for now, rage is the virus—and this episode is your first dose.
