#28. Navigating Insurance Disputes: Understanding Your Rights and Options with Kendie Schlecht

from Pockets of Knowledge · host Pockets of Knowledge

Welcome to this episode of the podcast, where I have the privilege of hosting Kendie Schlecht, a seasoned insurance lawyer. Kendie will be sharing her expertise to shed light on the importance of reaching out to your insurance company early and often when faced with claim situations, such as disputes over coverage, claims handling, and bad faith practices. She will explain the rights of policyholders in such scenarios and the various options available to resolve disputes with insurance providers. Along with that, we'll be delving into broader issues related to insurance disputes, including the significance of carefully reading policies and seeking legal advice when necessary. In addition, Kendie will also be sharing her experience during law school and insights on practicing law and returning to school for a second or later in life career. Whether you're dealing with an ongoing insurance dispute or simply want to be prepared in case one arises in the future, this episode is a must-listen. Kendie Schlecht's proficiency and insights will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the often intricate world of insurance disputes. So, tune in to this informative and educational podcast episode. Kendie is a long-time Irvine resident and when not at the office she is surrounded by children and dogs. She has served her son’s school as President (former) and Auditor (current) of the PTA and volunteers significant time in everything from running silent auctions to attending Traffic Commission meetings to ensure safe passage for students to and from school.  Kendie is also an Advisory Board member of The Joyful Child Foundation, dedicated to preventing crimes against children through programs that educate, empower, and unite families and communities. She and her husband have been together for over 30 years and are parents to a teenage son and two rescue dogs, Rocko and Ripley. And her lifelong passion for dogs has led her to work with several local rescue organizations to foster and transport dogs in need of another chance in life, especially senior and special needs dogs. Kendie Schlecht is counsel in the Newport Beach office, and concentrates her practice in the area of business litigation, with an emphasis on insurance coverage. Kendie Schlecht has been a civil litigator for over 25 years and during the last 15 years she has done that job in a "part-time" capacity.  Kendie has significant experience in state and federal matters involving insurance bad faith claims, contract disputes, unfair competition claims, and injury to business claims. Kendie has successfully pursued insurance companies to not only honor their duty to defend and indemnify their insureds but also to pay their insured’s attorneys’ fees incurred in obtaining benefits owed under the policies.  Kendie’s work has resulted in several multi-million dollar settlements from major insurance companies.
