#28: The GrowHaus
from NTI PodTalk by Nutrition Therapy Institute · host Nutrition Therapy Institute
The GrowHaus is a business located in the heart of Denver. Their mission is to cultivate community-driven food justice through education and food access. They offer food distribution programming and educational opportunities related to growing and cooking food, as well as overall wellness. They strive to be a community-driven organization, meaning their goal is to have all programs led and implemented by members of their community. They are successful when youth, families, and communities are empowered to feed, nourish, and strengthen themselves and others. Ciara, a volunteer for GrowHaus, grew up on a small family farm in Royalton, MN, and she is excited to be connected back to her roots working with plants and agriculture again at The GrowHaus! She went to school for Elementary Education and Spanish and taught Kindergarten for two years in San Pedro Sula, Honduras at an international school. Food justice is a new concept to Ciara, and she is excited to continue the life-long learning process to explore food systems, and how they co-exist in specific communities, and how she can learn from this information and share it with others.
