Hello and welcome to know applause just the clap the only show that fixed its recticle its recticle is correct Oh, I'm Doug and with me via speakerphone is Deb who's not wondering if I just had a stroke Short story that I've been playing so much so many video games over the last couple months that my controllers left stick went What's called dead stick which is you know I have never never had a dead dead stick there But no, basically the the stick just would like move on its own which is the opposite what you're talking about Yeah, well, I just you know when you're trying to use your you know It's there's a rectangle like the thing that goes like you know when you look at a microscope or through a sniper scope And it like would just move on its own and of course that would also control my characters my character would just walk off cliffs If I wasn't paying attention or he would walk into firefights, which you know, yeah was not not as fun as it sounds No, I was on no, I'm not even gonna get into all of that. Um, no, this was I just went to target So no game stop was it's I had a bunch of stuff reserved and with you know them closing stores There were issues with me getting items so For the most part we will see next month There's nothing I can do about last of us to right now apparently I'm waiting for I can email a week before release But their stores are open from like I mean, we've now gone from quarantine to stay home. Let's stay safe safer at home. Yeah But so we'll see I mean, I'm technically still on for low until the 31st I mean as I'm I may never go back to work.
Why not? Oh, if they close Like I said movie theaters may never come back and they come either I work for right now cheap or low-end No, they're not and they trust more to streaming service. So did they really? For rent and own on specific videos that they are promoting Oh, interesting.
Like I said, there's a chance we may never come back just by the fact that I love that unit I was a great job. We'll see if people can you know actually for that again and what we'll cover and what want? I honestly don't think movie theaters are ever gonna go away. I know this proves that you know they may not be as essential Obviously, yes being a complete con to universal.
Yeah, I know I saw that I mean, it's only gonna hurt them in the long run The irony of that trolls world to where we'll go down in history not for its content but for what it stood for when all this went down Makes me laugh Yeah, why don't so I don't Let's get into what we are what we do need like I said playing it against for a couple months I finished the first part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake My god, it's gorgeous the voice acting is great Yeah, it's just you know, it sucks. It's episodic because it ends right when it gets to like the open world part but Not only I think it not only is a great game for like, you know, if you want to get into the Final Fantasy series But I mean for me for like There's separate voice by the guy who plays Superman and supergirl weirdly enough Kind of weird. Yes, but yeah, I mean just to go back for me, you know playing the original game back in my teen years And getting sucked into it. It's so fun to go back to those characters And they didn't have voices in the original it was all text-based So to you know hear their voice casting for cloud and Barrett and Tifa and Arith Obviously separate off we talked about and red 13 has just been like dead on I think it's great for new fans and old fans alike and I cannot wait for the next part which they're working on Yeah, my only thing is that it's it's starting to bleed a remake like trend because like you've got like resin evil to got remade TV shows I think video games are a little different of an IP Yeah, that's true.
I mean really because I mean I can't think of a movie I put a hundred and well I put over 60 hours into Final Fantasy 7 remake And I'm still having gotten everything that I wanted, you know get done. There's still stuff in Colosseums and like I am and there's a game that we're gonna talk about possibly later There's a game that we'll talk about possibly later. That's really captured my attention in very weird place That's a lot to do in it Control so Control was that what I was telling you about where it's like Jean Grey meets like Nathan Drake from Uncharted So good in Borderlands 3 well, it's fun and there's a lot to do in it Has Cthulhu. Oh, yeah, the the last DLC campaign Yeah, the love love guns and tentacles that was a good one too.
I really enjoyed that one. They just released their new reign Mm-hmm one point if he makes a joke about wearing a t-shirt It's a different candy that just has a school girl waiting and giving like, you know that the piece fingers that just says I love tentacles He finally gets a decent title out of himself He's not great titles. No, he's not Kill society was one that was kind of bad Hollywood dead made sense, but it was like No, and I'm about a hundred pages into the grand dark It's a jury sellout it's denser than I thought it'd be with all of the Yeah, it's like 400 pages like I was very surprised by that Is having a bit of a sandman slam and it totally just Well grand dark it's like it's very dense like the German like influence very German Yeah, like a jury still out on that you know, I'm reading it like in very small increments just because Like I said, it goes from any kind of other different place that you're expecting it can't be really dead Both fans of the crampus is that what you just fucking said what does that mean? Well, yeah an anti-centa is very German Characters that you know make sense but also don't make sense Just move on well speaking moving on I'm not catching your context Hardly Quinn season two premiered Apparently is one of the characters Okay, it's season two if you're not watching it then I can't help you know like yeah, like Tony Hale is dr.
Psycho Ellen Tudic is Clayface and Joker on Ron punches, you know king sure Yeah, yeah, there's something I'm surprised he's not in actually on my list No But yeah, I'm really having hardly twins such a great watch. It's so fun It's a nice kind of palate cleanser. I get to watch, you know at the end of the week When you know I've done all my recording and editing and all this stuff for you know the network And then it's like Friday and I'm like I'm gonna sit back and just watch something that's you know really funny that's smartly written well Voice acted and grossing B.O. Max which premieres on May 29th So I'm like but they're gonna keep trying to your Harley Quinn.
I won't say on sci-fi or is it gonna go straight to you? Max they've been showing hardly one on sci-fi. I'm not sure I feel like that's why I read in one of the Instagram posts But I could be completely wrong. God.
It's so weird that Warner Br- DC owned by Warner Brothers Like why I don't know why they're like diversifying their outlets. That makes no sense Was a massive failure Well not just one thing doin patrol was great ting titans was amazing. I mean everything they put out Oh, that's your right to write You've got you know net geo and Star Wars and all the stuff they acquired from Fox. I mean there was just no way to compete with Disney plus Yeah, I just the DC thing They were really the first ones to come out with it outside of like you know Netflix who Lou But I mean they have like a specific niche Well, no, that's a not true and be a very oversimplification of it, but That's what I've been a swamp thing that's what happened to the streaming service No, I didn't say still making Titans or titans season two after that Well, and I think it was so niche like with being just DC and it's like yeah With that man and it didn't even try to promote it that way.
That's true Another quick and so late in the late in the game on that one I just said it out loud Well, yeah, I think the thing about the Harley Quinn cartoon, it's so hard to promote because it's basically hard are But it's also it's also animated. Yeah, and it's like and the thing is I think DC I think DC, you know And by proxy one of others. I think the problem with the DC streaming and it's it sucks because this is a great reason to suck In my opinion is they took their time and put together great cast great shows They took their time to put out these perfect gems But the money and time they put into them cost them against their competitors I think that I didn't ultimately that's what really hurt the streaming service as a whole not just you know The thing is wrong thing Right How I met your mother didn't get good till season two I Just open up with Paul Rudd who's visibly aging. Thank God I was a little worried there just by the fact we spent 30 years not doing it Yeah, exactly um and he is just like yeah, like here's this thing and like Leslie no open, you know Hey, wait, I haven't watched the news in a while.
What's going on? I was like yes, that's the biggest thing. That's to be getting on it. It just and then Yeah, actually I've been doing my John Ruffio impression about every couple weeks where I go I made my money Well, I like that I've been saying that I made my money old fashioned way unemployment Yeah, yeah, the person Rex special just fantastic.
They got so many people back The fact like Chris Pratt like he recorded it in like part of it in a shed and I'm like He's a huge movie star and he's like yeah Oh, it's she pregnant Yeah All jawline So yeah, the the park special was great And it wasn't unexpected you know what I mean like Well, I also like that it was Leslie notes daily phone tree like the fact that like it's the special that happens every day The only person that actually still uses a fucking film tree Not sure that from when I was a girl's carot in my blade, you know sports all of those things don't make any sense when I think about it Girl's got a sports Sure, I was not known for playing sports nor being on teams No, I don't Yeah, or you know anybody else Canada Every morning Equivalent Yeah One how great is it Yeah, the second season kind of goes off the rails a bit Broken character was kind of annoying Shannon Especially You know that he didn't write any of us right like everyone seems to think it's not It's Howard overton who did BBC's misfits I want to say about future man. It has some really good ideas I feel like it was done much better with a much shorter run and it actually helps them the same weirdly good high points that John ties with the end does okay No, I mean they have the same feel yeah same weird sci-fi stuff Yeah, but John ties at the end was a movie that knew when to shut the fuck up future man didn't yeah I could use more wolf in my life though like wolf in the 80s. It's so great I'm a wolf with his fucking Yeah, the alternate versions of them were weird But that's I think that's where it kind of went off the rail They brought back one of his wives from season two as the like Russian beat sex scene I think they probably Super stretched out and completely overdone. I think they probably could have done like something like black mirror where they do like half the episodes They've doubled the budget.
I think that worked out a lot better for future Yeah, yeah Yeah, no I agree can we talk about the like the rap video at the end of Because the fact that they like not only did they go this was based on a true story and they show like the quote unquote real like Wolf and tiger and Josh Wetterman what the fact that like the whole joke is that they whitewashed it Yes, okay Yeah Yeah Yeah, I forgot about the DNA thing It's like the reason why they keep you know you can't again When his wife swelling with child or whatever he keeps saying Oh god like the first season is so good Yeah, yeah, third season was returned to form though I like Speaking of a sophomore slump if you don't mind I finally got around okay, so like some of this stuff has been out for you know a while Yeah, I'm finally getting to it, but zombie land to It's exactly it's pretty good. It's exactly what it needed to be it was short it was sweet and it was I mean I was like, okay, that was it Yeah And Though they bring up an interesting point Or whatever it was yeah She was she unlet she became more than just a plot device was my thing No, you're right it hit everything it needed to hit and then that was it like they got even got out you're right I just wasn't expecting to be so like shortened to the point No, what do you got on your list? I'm not gonna watch it so go ahead There's some really interesting good things there. It is not a good place and it is not as much as it should be It's not as smart as it should be that we said yeah Yeah, yeah, I gotta I gotta move it with him that I'm gonna watch called code eight It looks like really funny interesting and good ideas in the show, but it just It's different ways and like follow up to the good place I would like to know but just you remember how good the good places yes Immediately not just because we go to the Christian But because it was so sorry, and I mean John you Jason and Ted Danson and she come on yeah I mean perfect casting perfect writing yeah Good idea and there are some very good casting.
What is the premise? So if you die you don't go with not be okay anymore You can have your entire brain uploaded into an app wait hold on so you when you die Yeah, you get uploaded or you just go like you die yeah, and I assume like oh Oh So like if you're super fucking rich you can keep being yourself and living in a specific place for a really long time That you better have a shit loaded life got you gotcha. Okay, so it's like okay, okay So you're running the money they'll just boot you off the server, and then you're actually dead dead Dies pretty Oh, and his current girlfriend who actually really doesn't like other than the fact that she's hot stock Okay, pay to have an uploaded into basically like the White House version of you know He after death and he feels like that he can't make any decisions without consulting her And if he breaks up with her he's going to end up in what they refer to as to gig area There's like the slums of okay Like I said you can use it to get to data and then your deck for the next month and then your new to Giggs Oh, I see gotcha gotcha gotcha Oh, well well okay to put that to put that in perspective now to put that in the perspective Final Fantasy 7 remake was I believe almost 90 gigs I Okay Do you want to jump ahead cuz I did want to come down the hour to day trade? Yeah, let's go to the end to the train So you watch what's around the okay?
Never seen dollhouse Yeah Really really unexpected and pretty unsettling well, I mean and that's got what's her name? And then watching Some are glows in it right at this point and like tofurs on I like school so furs on quite the decline I do have some questions about Bennett though like if I was dead Budget I don't know that's gonna be purely budgetary for Fox You know Deb I'm not jos Whedon nor am I had to fox broadcasting. I have no idea What oh Yeah Yeah, I do that's that's coming back In terms of fashion yes, yeah, yeah, you know actually it's funny cuz I'll use this as a springboard that I'm not gonna go on and on the buttocks. I know you think I could I actually could but I picked up, you know, I've been you and I've been talking about I picked up Destiny 2 the forsaken No, I told you I might work on your mix it I've got is destiny 2 with both expansions and 2-story like full like campaign story DLCs attention to it The thing is it's the user interface is not that great for someone who is just getting into destiny 2 because it's very quickly said If you want to go to the storyline like which is what's a legacy at this point is games But not for so long go talk go talk to this lady like over off to the side And if you don't really see that notification you have no idea what the fuck you're doing No, and luckily I have friends that are online that play it and I was just like wait What is this what is that they're like?
Oh, that's and the one guy this great guy named Ben Oh, it's great at being immersive if you if you've never played the game before and you catch that blurb And you go to your legacy runs so that you're like the story in continuity. It's incredibly immersive But I missed that blurb so I just started running around doing like side quests like and missions and unlocking Crazy guns, which was fun and it was great Because once I figured out where to get to the story campaign I was like oh shit like I was so overpowered. I just flew through it Which was awesome because I you know was like well I don't I just want to burn for all the storyline and get back to like doing all the side stuff to all of these crazy side missions Well, I feel like the question is though should they make it a little bit more centered on pointing people in their direction? Or should they let everybody stumble around with you did well this point stumbling around the only option because the game's been out for so long That there's no way they can there's no way they can read Well, I knew it was like immersive first person shooter and I like the idea of it What I know and I'm like I said like and you know me.
I'm not known for first person shooters outside of really borderlands and then now destiny No, dude. I don't like the I don't like the the push forward play It's where you have to keep moving forward like you can't stop things will kill you immediately. I don't like that from nettica pace I Played it on PC when it came out like Remember the original like the original Doom the original new company original world of Warcraft But my point that we brought a firefly in serenity was I was texting you that like Nathan Philly invoices a character Gina Taurus voices a character Yeah, but he did that like that self-financed trailer did you end up seeing that? But But His character so great and to hear him in Gina Torres back and forth again is so fun Unsettling to hear him say like vaguely or a big things to a legend do to you after saying wash and Zoe be so kind to each other What?
I wanted it. Okay, so we're talking about it in Philly and so you made a jump that didn't make any sense. Well, sorry I said my brain made sense apparently did not in my words. No.
Well, this is an audio medium not a mental medium So until we develop the telepathy we need to make this amazing really like to not ever have a mental Mental what medium oh no telepathy is not a place I ever I don't want that It's much like you know that teleporting joke It's not a talent for tourists No, it's yeah flame welding and teleportation is not a place to play tourist. That was mimic mimic from the exiles My brain I don't see other people real quick, but destiny a little bit of it's one of those like it's got a sense of humor like borderlands It's not as it's not as wacky as borderlands. It's a bit more like sci-fi and spiritualism It also just doesn't have like a super hard serious. No.
Yeah, like a phileans character Cade six Real funny and there's at one point you meet an AI that's kind of been isolation too long and she literally has like manic and depressive voices and Yeah, yeah Which was you know Ellen to difference the voice of danger boat danger boat is that right? Well, he was well, it was he was danger plane, but he identified as a boat Rescueing revive one of those characters To that when they had you know the henchmen support groups or the you know boy wonders now and adult support groups Hmm No, I can't think of an example that would compare to that but using either one of your examples, but okay It's almost like No, you're you're you're over you're over thinking where I'm coming from you'll be gummy dumb dumb dumb. No, no No, just you're overthinking like it's it's not yeah You're spending way too much energy on trying to unpack like kind of a one-note joke in a video game So I'm just you know like you're getting deep and I'm going you don't need to What else you got? No, I've gone through my entire list really that's it I have mentally developed an entire show You've mentally developed an entire show Did you read okay, well just we'll do a few more things and then did you reach upon this last one not fight for you which did come out?
Okay It's interesting I Kind of figured the hidden gun like you know about halfway through and I'm like okay But it's one of those like What's his take on checkups gone But it's a piece of satire it seems it's it's very Swift like Jonathan Swift and that like if you really don't know his voice it can come off really like weirdly homophobic and racist I mean specifically The premise is that basically through like this recruitment, I'm not gonna get into because I want to you know kind of wrap up on this he They stage like a nationwide coup basically to like stop the draft like for like the premise is that like every generation or so there's like a swell of like like male youth and To stop them from like ultimately taking over like they enact a draft to eliminate this like this like ball job like you know Yeah, it's what so but of course like the male the male group of these people like overthrow the government and they divide the nation into three Which is Cacasia Gasia and black topia Oh years ago No, that was based on eugenics wasn't it? Okay, so anyway, so this is the whole thing yes But it like I said like any he takes these like snap shots of these like main characters in the like Caucasian You know whatever and like the gay homeland and it's like like topia where you know It's just yeah, anyway and like once again like I know he was trying to do it just if Well there's like this like a book like that like that every one of the revolutionaries like has and it's like a new bible and Everything about it is like it's like satire within satire which borders on not being satire. Well, you know what I mean? Like No, this is and this is a lot less of that like that like oral biography these written out before it with rant Paul and it has not Brooks, but No, it just seems that like it like the way he the way of the book inside the book shapes shapes a mentality of each of We can't we can't interrupt each other on one run speaker phone.
So let me just say this and you can get to your thought that like the the way the book speaks to each individual like nation mentality of like J black and white like it comes off as like very like racial and like setting them against each other Ideologically despite talking about liberation and it comes off as not satire on some things In terms of like stereotypes You feel like you should have thrown this project away if you've just given it more time or has more input I think what it needed was a plot It doesn't have a more input Yeah, I think you could kind of streamlined some stuff and It just meanders and there are a lot more characters in this book than in some of his other books which kind of struck me as weird But it's also his first book and like you know like four years or something Yeah, that no one asked about the bloody gut and on a fight, I know No, no, it didn't His mother being remarried and you know things not going very well at all Are you talking about when his dad got murdered? That happened after he was an established author so Well, yeah, something that traumatic is always gonna do it, but that's great I mean, maybe he just feels things a lot more strongly than most people do I don't know this was one of those weird ones where I think he was trying to hold a mirror up like satire And he's like look look how stupid some people can be and then you're just like it's like there's no There's no learning like it's like there's no There's no like yeah, it's like it's not tongue-in-cheek. There's no like silver lining. It's just like Like oh, yeah, they've dropped like so stupidly into this like idea that there's no getting out of it and I I it wasn't what I expected it to be and Not in a good way It makes me a little twitchy about when I because I've got a copy of you know Fight Club 3 on deck and I'm a little twitchy since Fight Club 2 wasn't 100% what I wanted to be The problem with the problem with the fight club 2 was that he actually did have too much input and he Remember to use his own writing circle like his own writing workshop group into it and I got like weirdly like weirdly meta We're not all up who is what you just said All right, well obviously we should know when to wrap up and that's now so anything else Fair enough If you like this check out some of our other shows like exotic liability no applause just the clap and black falls We can be found at www.bacnpodcast.com and by searching for the BACN on Stitcher iTunes and Google Play Oh, yeah
