2834: Health on the Frontline: South Sudan’s Fight Against Floods and Surging Medical Needs

Several health facilities across the states of South Sudan are submerged, as the country faces its worst flooding crisis in years. The government, alongside health partners including the UN's World Health Organization (WHO), is responding to multiple emergencies across the country, as healthcare demands exceed the capacity of the remaining operational centers. Dr Tony Tombe of WHO tells the Miraya Breakfast Show that the organization has distributed 87 tonnes of emergency medical kits throughout South Sudan. Makeshift and mobile clinics have been set up to support existing facilities, which are burdened with additional displaced populations. Mabior Kiir from the Ministry of Health says the government is coordinating medical supply distribution and strengthening disease surveillance. Aired: 25 October 2024
