Send us Fan MailIn this episode, I speak to George West from Learn Diabetes who has been living with type 1 diabetes for 3.5 years. George was diagnosed with type 1 whilst he was in medical school. We discuss the challenges that his diagnosis bought in particular how George processed the mental aspect of it. In his first appointment with his endocrinologist, which was the day after he was diagnosed he asked to put on a flash glucose monitor! George talks about the first six months after his diagnosis and how he navigated various challenges including medical school, friends and exercise. Exercise was and still is a big part of George’s life and we talk about how a poignant moment with a psychologist help George to overcome the barrier of exercising with type 1 diabetes. George and his friend have set up an Instagram page called Learn Diabetes which we discuss towards the end of our chat. In this episode when talking about glucose levels we use mmols. If you use milligrams per deciliter then multiply the mmol number by 18 to convert.
