29| Pros and Cons of Purchasing an Electric Vehicle with Brittany Idleburg of Live Life Electrified

According to Earthjustice.org, transportation is the largest source of climate pollution in the US. Gas vehicles release air pollutants and emissions that not only harm the environment, but also are detrimental to our health by causing asthma, bronchitis and cancer. The best solution to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles is to shift to electric.  When we think of electric vehicles, Tesla is probably the first that comes to mind. However, more and more electric options are entering the market on a frequent basis. And it's not just limited to cars. California is aiming to transition to 100% electric public buses by 2040, and in 2019 the first electric fire truck was introduced.  But, everything comes at a cost. Not just financially, but also environmentally. In the manufacturing process, electric vehicles will produce more global warming emissions than the average gasoline vehicle, because electric cars’ large lithium-ion batteries require a lot of materials and energy to build. However, electric vehicles make up for their higher manufacturing emissions within eighteen months of driving — and continue to outperform gasoline cars until the end of their lives. So in the long run, electric does come out on top.  And as for the perceived higher price tag... well, electric isn't necessarily more expensive. There are plenty of affordable options for those of us on a budget.  In this episode we'll be talking all about electric vehicles with Brittany Idleburg, the creator behind the Live Life Electrified blog.
