#293 Identity Politics, Party Loyalty and Pronouns

from And Another Thing with Dave · host Dave Smith

In this episode: Beorn from the Stereo app for part 2 of 3 from 10.7.22. Beorn   www.stereo.com/beorn   IG @stereobeorn  Follow me on Stereo   -    www.stereo.com/andanotherthing We delve into some controversial topics in this episode. We are being distracted with the pronoun debate while we ignore Julian Assange in jail and continued war crimes. Wedge issues continue to divide us preventing us from seeing our mutual oppressor and taking steps toward real change.  Please check out the Peoples Party www.peoplesparty.org I am not a party loyalist, as a matter of fact, I am an independent. In my humble opinion a politician's stance on issues is much more important than their personal demographics. Yes, it would be nice to finally have a female president here in the US, but the right president based on their policies is more important than having a female president with horrible policies. It is true we need to move away from being a country being ruled by rich old white men, but we need to be careful that we do not elect a wolf in sheep's clothing.  Politics should be about policies not personal identity. Yes, we want the diversity of our country represented in our government, but we need elected officials that have their eye on the important issues such as Universal Healthcare, reeling in the military budget, making college education free, and ending our imperialistic foreign policy.  It is time we put America first and invest in our own country instead of spending hundreds of billions of dollars abroad being the world's police. It is time we put the needs of the American people above corporate profit. Our military is primarily used to secure energy resources and ensure corporate profits. If we cut the military budget in half, we would still be spending $50 billion a year more than China which has the next largest military budget.  With the money saved ($400 billion a year) we could invest in our people. Free college with a direct path to internships and jobs. Free trade schools with a direct path to apprenticeships under contractors. Universal Healthcare for all Americans so we can address the leading cause of bankruptcy for Americans which is medical debt. Free mental healthcare to address the epidemic of mass shootings we have in this country. As well as providing incentives for solar panel and electric vehicle purchase. Imagine if the government instead of spending on the bloated military budget offered government home loans with no payments due for the first 5 years. Imagine if we housed the 500,000 homeless which studies show would be cheaper than what we are doing now. We could not only house the homeless but provide computer and job training to help people reintegrate into society. Finland has done this with great success. Thank you for tuning in!
