294: Streaming Futures

from At the Flicks · host At the Flicks

Welcome to a special streaming show.  Of course, the usual streaming gang are all here, Declan, Graham and Jeff, however this time the content is a little bit different. Dec has his special recommendations, we wouldn’t change that and  we would urge you to catch up with them.  Shows like Small Prophets and Lord Of The Flies – a diverse pair, well produced by The BBC and a couple of gems from Apple.  To find out what we enthuse over on that streaming channel, you will have to listen to the show. That’s our bit of mystery done! But all that is just the Appetiser.  We said this was special.  For this episode we are looking at the changing landscape of the streaming show.  With HBO launching in the UK and the Warners / Paramount deal still dragging all on, what does it mean to you the consumer?  Will it be more or less choice and, perhaps more importantly, could it cost you more for less? This fascinating and topical discussion takes in all of those questions. Now, we will admit that we recorded it over a month ago, but in reality little has changed since we spoke .  Who said the streaming world moves fast? However, what really surprised us where we ended up and what had not been considered when planning the show.  The rise of the short form platforms, like YouTube or TikTok. Indeed, with the success of movies like Obsession and Backrooms, it seems those platforms may, ironically, be a saviour of the cinema.  That is something this same team is going to look at in another show in the near future. Until then, we look forward to seeing you, watching these YouTube inspired movies, At The Flicks Bye for now
