3/1 Indiana Weather: Special Weather Statement

from The Indiana Weather Podcast

Good morning. Indiana. I'm Aaron Jolly. Enjoy the quiet today. Because tonight kicks off one wild week. In the next 24 hours. Right now, high pressure over the Great Lakes is giving us a calm Sunday. Step outside and you're looking at 33 degrees under overcast skies. Highs today struggle into the upper 30s and low 40s for most folks. South Bend reaches 35 under sunny skies. Fort Wayne climbs to 36 with mostly sunny breaks. Indianapolis hits 42 under partly sunny conditions. Evansville takes the warmth crown at 53 degrees — the only spot breaking 50 today. Tonight is when things flip. A disturbance slides in from the west, bringing mixed precipitation south of I-70. Indianapolis sees snow likely between 2 A.M. and 6 A.M., with temps dropping to 28 degrees. You could wake up to less than an inch on the ground. Fort Wayne and South Bend stay mostly cloudy and dry, bottoming out at 24 degrees. but Evansville? Rain showers arrive after 11 P.M., with temps holding at 37. Here's the tricky part. South of I-24, that warm air aloft creates a wintry mix — primarily sleet with some snow. Accumulations of half an inch to 2 inches are possible. A light glaze of freezing rain can't be ruled out. Monday morning's commute could be slick in those areas. Now for the big picture. Starting Tuesday, temperatures surge hard. Indianapolis climbs to 57 Tuesday, then 66 Wednesday. and near 70 by Friday. Fort Wayne follows a similar path — 49 Tuesday, 60 Wednesday, 67 Friday. Evansville leads the charge, hitting 70 by Tuesday and 75 by Friday. But warmth comes with a price. Near-daily rain arrives Tuesday through Saturday. Heavy rainfall is likely, with storm totals potentially reaching several inches by next weekend. Rivers will rise. Flooding is a real concern. Clear those storm drains now. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
