What Happened to the Kennedy Democrats?  I grew up in New York and my parents were Democrats — Kennedy Democrats.  So, when I was old enough to vote in my first presidential election, I  voted for Jimmy Carter. I voted straight party lines every time.  Moreover, I didn’t really look at the candidate — I voted Democrat. I voted for Bill Clinton. Living in Miami at the  time, I remember my boss and I joyously watching the inauguration in her  office. We sang along with “Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow…”. I was  saddened and astonished when the whole Monica Lewinski scandal erupted.  That couldn’t be my president! I called myself a die-hard Democrat. I even voted  for John Kerry even though I didn’t like him at all. In my mind, it was better to vote for a Dem rather than a Republican.
