3/2 Maine Weather 6 PM: Feels Like 5 Degrees

from The Maine Weather Podcast

Good evening. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz. That brilliant sunshine overhead? It's actually working against you tonight. High pressure is parked right over us, acting like an open window to the Arctic. There are no clouds to trap the heat, so all that warmth just vanishes into space. You step outside and feel 19 degrees, but it feels sharper because the air is so dry. In the next 24 hours. Enjoy the quiet today. Because things change tomorrow. Tonight, the temperature crash is on. Down along the South Coast, you drop to 13 degrees. but head inland? Bangor falls to 3 above zero. The Western Mountains bottom out at minus 7. Up in The County, you're looking at minus S One. With those winds, it will feel like minus 10 in Aroostook. That's serious cold. Tuesday starts deceptively nice with mid-30s and sunshine. but watch the sky after lunch. Clouds thicken up. Snow starts near Portland right around 3 P.M. It sweeps northeast, reaching Bangor and Downeast by evening. Tuesday night is the commute you'll want to avoid. A swath of wet snow crosses the state. Expect 1 to 3 inches inland. Downeast gets 2 to 4. The coast might see a mix of rain. Plan on slick roads for Wednesday morning. But look at that quick rebound. Wednesday clears out fast and highs jump to near 50 degrees. We stay mild Thursday with a chance of snow up north. Friday brings a mixed bag of precipitation. but this weekend? Highs climb into the 50s. That mild air will eat your snowpack fast. By the way, maple sugaring season starts in just 13 days. These cold nights and warming days are exactly what the sap needs. We see the sunrise at 6:17 A.M. and set at 5:31 P.M., gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight today. Set your alarms a little early tomorrow. You'll thank me when you see the roads. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
