3/2 New York Weather 6 AM: Cold Weather Advisory

from The New York Weather Podcast

Good morning. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. High pressure is parked right over us like a bouncer at the door. Nothing's getting through today. That means brilliant sunshine. and the kind of cold that makes your eyes water before you reach the car. In the next 24 hours. New York City woke up to 22 degrees. Feels more like 13 with that north wind sneaking through every zipper. You'll climb to 31 by mid afternoon, but don't let the sunshine fool you. That air has teeth. Now drive north on the Thruway and watch the thermometer plummet. The Capital Region? Six degrees this morning. Not wind chill. Actual temperature. Albany tops out at 28 today. Western New York starts at 11, climbs to 32. Central New York mirrors that pattern. Ten degrees at dawn, 28 for the high. Tonight stays cold everywhere. The city dips to 27. Albany drops to 10. Central New York settles near 18. But enjoy this calm while you can. Because tomorrow morning, everything changes. That high pressure slides offshore tonight. A warm front rushes in. and snow starts around 7 A.M. Tuesday. Then it gets messy. Sleet and freezing rain take over by late morning. The afternoon commute could be treacherous, especially north and east of Albany. Most spots see under an inch of snow, but any ice on the roads is worth planning around. The rest of the week reads like a completely different season. Wednesday through Friday, highs jump into the 40s and 50s. Saturday could flirt with 60 degrees. The catch? Rain nearly every day. That rapid warmup plus steady rain means ice jams on rivers become a real concern by late week. We're gaining almost three minutes of daylight now. Spring is 18 days out. Today's sunshine is your last quiet day for a while. Soak up every ray. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
