3-30-25, Pastor Tim Baker, "Seeing the Face of God", Genesis 33

The night before his fateful reunion with Esau, Jacob wrestled with God in human form. God broke him that night, injuring his hip and leaving him with a limp that would accompany him the rest of his life. God also changed his name that night. No longer would he be Jacob (the schemer, heel grabber). From now on he would be Israel – a warrior who struggled with God and lived. Jacob named that place “the face of God” (Gen. 32:30). Having seen the face of God, he is now ready to trust him as he moves on to face his brother. In this chapter we will see three things that Jacob will face, each of them reflecting to him the face of God. Like Jacob, these are three things we too may need to face, and if we do we just might see God’s reflection there too.
