from American Capitalism: A History
We will introduce the plantation economy and trace its development in the old world and transport to the new. We will look at how sugar production migrated from the Levant, to an island of the coast of Africa, to Brazil, and finally the Caribbean. We will also discuss why this sugar economy is relevant to the eventual development of capitalism in the United States.
