3. Christianity Over Culture: Accountability in The Church

This weekend we continue in our series called CHRISTIANITY OVER CULTURE. As followers of Jesus we are called to live for Jesus and not the culture of the world we live in. Our culture will say things are ok that Jesus says are not. We must live up to the standard Jesus calls us to not the standard of the world we live in. In 1 Corinthians 5 we encounter an issue of sexual immorality that was being allowed in the church. The church was allowing and even proud of a man who was living in sin with his step mother. Now the issue of sexual immorality is nothing new and yet the church was proud of what was going on. Paul sends a sharp correction regarding their allowance of this behavior. In our world today sexual issues have nearly taken over our culture. From prolific porn use to same sex relationships to people choosing their identity based on their chosen gender. There is an attempt to put sexual identity and practice at the top of our value system. We must deal with this issue in the same way the early church did. Drawing lines of morality and behavior in the church based on what God's standards are, is crucial if we are to continue to help people move from death to life.
