Dr. Bailes talks about the movie “CONCUSSION” and being portrayed by Alec Baldwin and the accuracy of the movie and story behind the discovery of CTE, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. Dr. Bailes talks about his relationship with Dr. Bennet Omalu, who discovered CTE in the brain of Mike Webster, the famous Pittsburgh Steeler and how that was the genesis of years long research and innovation to make football as safe as possible.Dr. Bailes also discusses Alabama Coach Nick Saban.Finally, Dr. Bailes gives his opinions on the state of research regarding traumatic brain injury and his involvement in a company called CereMark, and their quest to develop a test to provide a living diagnosis of CTE and additionally that companies’ efforts to develop a therapeutic drug to block or dissipate tau proteins, which are the root cause of CTE.
