Cirka 500-600 danskere er afhængige af hjemmeparenteral ernæring (HPN). Det kan skyldes, at tarmene ikke fungerer eller at større dele af tarmene er bortopererede, så tarmen ikke kan optage den nødvendige næring gennem mad, ernæringsdrikke eller sonde.
