3 Hours to Leave the Country - Ep 019

The United States had declared a Level 4 travel advisory (first time in history) and warned everyone abroad that if they didn't return home, there was a likelihood that they wouldn't be able to receive help from the US to return home. Obviously, that create a bit of urgency for everyone attending the wedding to get home. Amanda and I still had more than two weeks left in our vacation but we had started to come to terms with the trip ending earlier.  A majority of our wedding guests had returned home early as well, and we had moved our departure up to Tuesday March 25th. But on the Sunday before we received a notice that both Taiwan and Singapore were closing their airports to transfers on Tuesday at Midnight. It's now March 24, 2020, just 4 days after our wedding in Bangkok.  Amanda and I went first thing in the morning to the EVA Airlines Bangkok offices to manage our flights itinerary. After waiting for around 90 minutes, we finally met a ticketing agent. This is when she told us that the airports were actually closing at midnight between Monday and Tuesday, meaning, they closed tonight.  She said the last flight leaving Bangkok for Taiwan in 3 hours, and if we weren't on that plane, we would need to find another way home. After this point, Japan would be the only country we could fly back through to get into America.  It started a crazy rush that we were not very prepared for. 3 very wild and crazy hours after that conversation, we were on a plane to Taiwan and our trip was over.  This is the story about that day.
