Laura Wilkinson is the 2000 Olympic platform gold medal winner. Laura also won the 2004 World Cup and the 2005 World Championships, becoming the first woman in history to win all 3 world titles in platform diving.Throughout her career, she has won 19 US National Titles, been voted by the American public the 2000 US Olympic Spirit Award winner and was nominated for an ESPY award. Laura has been inducted into 5 different Halls of Fame including the International Swimming Hall of Fame.Laura's podcast is The Pursuit of Gold.  She is an author and mindset coach. She wrote Life at 10 Meters, Lessons from an Olympic Champion, and recently released The Confidence Journal. Laura also created an online course called Confident Competitor. Laura is wife to Eriek Hulseman and has 4 kids. Notes from the Sidelines: What we do matters. We don't realize the influence we have over the people around us. When trying a new big thing, we have to make the decision if this is worth trying and moving past our fears. Having one person believe in you can make the difference. Once you speak your goal out loud to another person means that person can hold you accountable. Coaches are there to help you reach your goals and they can't read your mind, so you have to tell them what you want so they can help you get there or even tell you that you are capable of even more. All athletes are wired differently, and it's important to be self-aware, so that you can recognize if your involvement in sports is not supporting your mental health. It's not an easy road to be an elite athlete, so be prepared to fundraise or pay out-of-pocket until you win big and get sponsors. When you are driven, you find a way. All athletes struggle with the same "stuff." If someone looks like they have it together, know that they had to learn their lessons along the way.
