Sapphire and Steel are two interdimensional operatives.Time is a corridor that surrounds everything, but there are weak spots where Time – implied to be a malignant force – can break into the present and take things. There are also creatures from the beginnings and ends of time that roam the corridor looking for the weaknesses to break through. Sapphire and Steel are two of a group of beings described as ‘Medium atomic weighted elements’ who act as Guardians of Time.The landlord of a Lost and Found shop has gone missing. The new landlord can not be described by the remaining tennant, his face somehow hidden from her mind. Strange children are seen playing in the yard in anachronistic clothing. What were the experiments the missing landlord was undertaking. Why are there photographs throughout his flat with people missing from them.Starring David McCallum as Steel and Joanna Lumley as Sapphire and Produced by ATV, it ran from 1979 to 1982 on the ITV network.The audience figures were unusually high for a science fiction series with the first episode, gaining 11.8 million viewers.
