3 Tips For Working With Referees

One of my biggest regrets as a young coach? How I treated referees. 🏀😬 I was so quick to criticize and forget they’re human too, making mistakes just like the rest of us. Constantly yelling and pushing boundaries didn’t do anyone any favors – it just set a bad example for my team and made it harder to get calls in our favor. Here’s what I’ve learned over the years: 1️⃣ Build a relationship – Refs are people too, get to know them! 🙌 2️⃣ Advocate the right way – Choose your moments wisely and respectfully. 🗣️ 3️⃣ Set the standard – Your athletes mirror your actions, so show them how to focus on what they can control.
