In this episode of The Athlete Mom Project, I share why I chose to run an ultramarathon as a busy mom — and why it had nothing to do with weight loss, proving anything, or chasing a podium. This conversation was inspired by a question a client asked me: “Why not just go run that distance on your own? Why the race?” The answer goes deeper than running. For me, the race wasn’t about competition — it was an accountability marker, a way to anchor meaning and purpose in my movement again. For many years, my relationship with exercise was driven by how my body looked. But after becoming a mom, that “why” stopped working. In this episode, I talk about how shifting toward performance goals helped me reconnect with movement, rebuild trust with my body, and find inspiration beyond aesthetics. I ran 32 miles for my 32nd birthday — not as a test, but as a celebration of growth, resilience, and choosing something bigger than myself. I had a 1:1 client meeting today and they asked me this question and it really made me think. They said &quot;Why not just go out and do that distance on your own? Why the race?&quot;</p> <p><br></p> <p>My answer was that I&#39;m not looking at this as a &quot;race.&quot; I used this as an accountability metric for myself.</p> <p><br></p> <p>For so long I was consumed about what my body looked like and that was my sole driver for WHY i chose the movement/workouts that I did. They WHY for me now is very different. </p> <p><br></p> <p>I&#39;m doing this race because yesterday I turned 32.
