30 - Anora

Five Oscars, one stripper, and three Doggett brothers with zero self-control (and Daniel). Anora, the 2024 Oscar darling about a stripper who marries an oligarch’s son, is a film like no other. It shifts seamlessly from drama to comedy, features standout performances, and subverts expectations in ways that make for a hilarious and touching storyline. (Plus, we’ve all proposed to a stripper at one time or another, so this one just hits different.) In between serious discussion of storytelling, performances, and themes, we derail into crude jokes, awkward confessions, and way more information about our sex lives than anyone asked for. Our aim is to answer one question: Did this film really deserve five Oscars? Listen now to find out. Anora is a 2024 comedy-drama written, directed, produced, and edited by Sean Baker. It stars Mikey Madison, Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov, Vache Tovmasyan, Darya Ekamasova, Karren Karagulian, and Aleksei Serebryakov.
