Yes, an oasis, a fertile spot in a desert where water is found, is very helpful in life in order to rejuvenate ourselves to be able to continue on in the Raging Waters of life, earning a living, and with family and community responsibilities. But there is an even greater purpose of having an oasis in our lives. Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden of Eden, living with the aftermath of agricultural hard work, menstrual cycle and labor-pains. Nevertheless, Adam and Eve remembered what life could and should be like. However, the following generations had no true picture of what life could be like. Even Adam and Eve needed an oasis to know what the Garden of Eden without a jealous serpent would look like. There is a reason why communist dictators are controlling the internet of what can and what cannot be seen in their countries. For, the mind, heart and spirit cannot yearn for that which it does not know. Thus, for this very same reason, G-d placed oases within the world for us to truly experience what life could and should be like. Additionally, it is only when we are connected to our oasis that we are empowered to create what the world can be like. Our sages state (-Talmud, Berochot 5b), “The prisoner cannot free himself from jail.” This is why, unless we are within our oasis, we cannot free ourselves or our world. It is only when we are in the freedom of our oasis, out of the box of imprisonment, that we can bring freedom to the universe. As a matter-a-fact, it is said that a true leader is already ‘there,’ from which he looks back at the ‘here,’ and figures out how to get everyone from ‘here’ to ‘there.’ And so it is with us finding our oasis. We must find our oasis, be ‘there’, from ‘there’ look back at the ‘here’ of our present lives outside of the oasis, and then build the bridge from the outside to the oasis, bring our entire lives within the oasis. This lecture is based upon a maamor delivered by the Rebbe in 1958, exploring the destruction of the Holy Temple, the present oasis of the Holy Temple, while in exile, and how to bring the entire universe to an unpresented stage of an absolute indestructible omnipresence oasis.
