#304 dwi

from Apologue Podcast

Vancouver music scene veteran and bass player for The Zolas, dwi has just released his debut single and video for “Freak N Out”. This is the first offering from dwi’s upcoming EP, set for release in September on Light Organ Records. The video for “Freak N Out” takes the listener through a psychedelic dreamscape where dwi snakes through pockets of dark and light, rain and shine, and even dances with a life-size teddy bear. The hypnotizing beats hint of 90s Brit Pop, together with some spacy grooves, sunset hues, and a bit of Bowie’s bubble gum. Fans of Mac DeMarco, Real Estate, and indie legends the Sea and Cake will jump on dwi’s open vocals and chill synth sounds. The songs are personal yet familiar, soothing to the ear, and full of summer hope. dwi’s deeply personal solo project was born out of the isolation that ensued as a result of the 2020 global pandemic. dwi used the time to create something new, exciting, and introspective. The breezy songs are reflective in nature, and touch on a range of topics including childhood, environmentalism, addiction, and the political landscape of the world. Obvious nods to musical heroes such as The Beatles, Damon Albarn, and The Cure are heard throughout. dwi’s melodic indie pop is your new, lazy, summer jam.
