The two sometimes overlap, but not nearly as often as people think. To help listeners differentiate, we share example of sex devoid of intimacy, intimacy devoid of sex, and intimate sex (when the two overlap). We explain what intimacy really is: knowing deeply and being deeply known. Intimacy is the Christmas Day of relationships. When we conflate sex and intimacy, we cheapen intimacy, which is a crucial part of any solid relationship.
