312: Reading Simplified with Marnie Ginsberg Ph.D

from Education On Fire - Sharing creative and inspiring learning in our schools

Marnie Ginsberg, Founder of Reading Simplified, is a reading difficultiesdetective who streamlines the science and art of reading instruction soteachers can rapidly learn effective techniques that help students accelerateto grade level and beyond. She also helps translate the latest understandingsfrom science into practical, easy-to-implement activities. In the late 1990s, Marnie uncovered that her 6th-grade language arts students,on average, were reading 2 years below grade level. And despite her master’sdegree and enthusiasm, she had no idea how to remediate their word-readingdifficulties.After eventually finding solutions for her struggling readers, she led thedevelopment of the Targeted Reading Intervention at the University of NorthCarolina. Across 15+ years, multiple research articles have demonstratedthat struggling K-2 readers grow significantly in reading with the TargetedReading Intervention (TRI), which is on the federal What Works Clearinghouseand is endorsed by many organizations such as Evidence for ESSA and RANDCorporation’s Promising Practices Network. Given the repeated, strong resultsof the TRI across multiple clinical trials, Dr. Ginsberg expanded the resourcesand adapted the professional learning approach to provide Reading Simplifiedfor a broader audience beginning in 2013.Websitewww.readingsimplified.comwww.readingsimplified.com/switch-itSocial Media Informationfacebook.com/readingsimplifiedinstagram.com/readingsimplifiedtwitter.com/readsimplifiedlinkedin.com/in/marnie-ginsberg-readingResources MentionedReading ReflexWhy Our Children Can't ReadShow SponsorNational Association for Primary Education (NAPE) are planning a Primary Education Summit in March 2023.
