De Democraten hielden ruim een maand de rangen gesloten, maar deze week braken acht senatoren met de partijlijn en stemde in met eindigen van de shutdown. Nadat het Huis van Afgevaardigden ook instemde en Trump zijn handtekening zette kwam de langste shutdown ooit op dag 43 tot zijn einde. De overheid kan dus weer open, maar de politieke, economische én maatschappelijke gevolgen zullen nog lang voelbaar zijn. En nu het Congres weer aan het werk kan, duikt een oud schandaal opnieuw op: de zaak Epstein.
