320. Parenting Principles: We Don't Exclude

Welcome back to the kitchen table. Bethany shares a guiding principle in her home: inclusion. Rooted in James 2:1, which calls us to show no partiality, Bethany shares how exclusion has no place in her home. Her goal is to raise children who don’t just avoid exclusion but actively work to include others. Kids naturally want their own space—it's common to hear, “get out of my room” But Bethany encourages her children to look beneath this impulse and ask what’s driving it. Why do they want to exclude? Is it anger, frustration, or something else? These gospel conversations are a way to explore what’s going on in their hearts and to bring those feelings to light. Building an inclusive family culture takes practice and patience. Bethany teaches her children that while the world often encourages exclusivity, they’re called to be different. Through intentional conversations, ownership, and a commitment to kindness, they’re learning to grow together as a family that values and practices inclusion.
