323: The Psychology of Conscious Opposition - Being the Bridge that Unites

from I'm Perfectly Divine Podcast · host Michelle Bersell

We are experiencing BIG, unprecedented, and unpredictable energy right now, which is why so many feel angry, afraid, sad, and frustrated. As we recognize our emotions as energetic allies rather than enemies, we're being called to fundamentally transform the way we show up around what we oppose—not to be passive, but to be exponentially more effective. The dynamics of opposition we've inherited are rooted in dichotomies: us vs them, right vs wrong, good vs bad, moral vs immoral. The list goes on and on, and so does the struggle. This framework is built on winning—and it's exhausting, divisive, and ultimately unsustainable. We are being called to something far more challenging and courageous: to stop trying to win and instead support the evolution of the good within all of us. This requires us to be vulnerable enough to see how we're more similar than we realize, to examine our own shadows, and to honor the love we innately are—even when it feels risky to do so.What we are exploring in this episode:The subtle ways we may unknowingly deepen divisions while believing we're fighting for what's rightHow to use psychological insight to recognize and break free from narcissistic systems and collective gaslightingThe patterns of manipulation that have operated throughout millennia—and why they work so convincinglyThe innate power you can access to support genuine collective transformationWhy caring about injustice isn't enough—and what the more courageous step actually entailsHow to implement strategic consequences that create accountability without perpetuating the same divisive tactics we opposeThis isn't a new playbook. This is the elevated consciousness that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. embodied and shared with us, along with other visionaries who proved we can oppose harmful actions without becoming what we're opposing. I believe we are being called to turn MLK's dream into our lived reality—and it starts with cultivating a higher, more loving, and yes, more courageous consciousness that creates union where there's been division.Caring deeply about justice is the starting point—the growth edge is learning to embody that care in ways that foster genuine connection and lasting change. This means getting uncomfortable. It means examining where our own egos want to be right more than they want to be effective. It means extending our hand to those we oppose, not because their actions are acceptable, but because their hearts contain the same longing for belonging and purpose that ours do. As always, the transformation we seek in the world begins with the courage we cultivate within ourselves.Thank you for being one of the courageous ones who recognizes that the shadows within us all are calling to be addressed—not through spiritual bypassing or false niceties, but through the genuine challenge of staying human when we find ourselves in opposition to one another. This is how we become the bridge. This is how we see one another as one.
