Tales of Great Heroes 7 In Argolis of Greece, King Acrisius had a lovely daughter Danae. Acrisius went ask Apollo at Delphi why he didn't have any son. Messenger said that his daughter Danae's son will grow up to kill Acrisius. Upon this, Acrisius locked daughter Danae high up on a tall tower without meeting anyone. Zeus learnt about the beauty of Danae. Zeus changed himself into a shower of golden rain and he visited Danae at the tower and Danae gave birth to a beautiful child. Acrisius learnt about the birth of Danae's child and he was so angry that he bade the mother and son be locked inside a wooden box and be thrown into the river. Fisherman Dyctis saved them both. Upon Perseus's growing up, the king Polydectus made the mother and the son come forward to meet him. The King loved Danae at the first sight. Danae wouldn't marry the king. Polydectus planned to kill Perseus before he took Danae by force. Polydectus invited all the youths to come to the palace and have a grand feast. Perseus was the only one guest who didn't bring any gift. Perseus was embarrassed to the point that he impulsively promised the King he would bring any gift the king asked. Polydectus asked the head of Medusa the Gorgon. Since Perseus was the son of Zeus, Athena and Hermes came up to help. Athena gave Perseus her bright shield and warned Perseus not to look at Medusa directly. Hermes gave Perseus his quick sickle to cut off Medusa's head swiftly. Perseus had to go find the grey sisters who had only one eye and one tooth between them. Perseus took the eye and forced the information out and found the fairies of the North. Fairies gave Perseus shoes of speed, magic bag to carry head of Medusa, and Cape of Darkness so Perseus could be invisible. Perseus reached rocky land of the Gorgons. Perseus wore the invisible cape and tiptoed beside Medusa and quickly cut off her head and put the head into the magic bag. Medusa's sisters awoke and screamed with anger to chase Perseus, he fled at godly speed with fairies' shoes and narrowly escaped the gorgons. On Perseus's way home, he looked down upon the hills and found a beautiful girl strapped to the rock. He landed and asked for the girl's name and hand. The girl's name was Andromeda, daughter of the King. Andromeda's mother boasted of her own beauty which annoyed the fairies of the sea who in turn sent a sea monster to eat up the whole nation. The king thought to sacrifice his daughter to the monster and appeased its anger. Upon the arriving of the monster, Perseus took out Medusa's head from the magic bag, and turned the monster into stones and fell into the sea. Perseus returned to Argolis with Andromeda. The King Polydectus still despised Perseus, thinking he would never have achieved the task of killing Medusa. Perseus took out Medusa's head, and all the mocking guests at the palace were all turned into stones. Foster father Dyctis became king and married Danae. Perseus resumes his journey homeward. During the journey, Perseus went to join some sportive events. In one of the events, he threw a big piece of iron and accidentally hurt an old man and the man died. It turned out that the old man is nobody else but Perseus's grandfather Acrisius. Therefore, Perseus became the king and Andromeda the queen. Perseus won over Dionysus as narrater in last chapter. When Perseus died, Zeus changed him into the constellations at the night sky with his wife Andromeda. The next hero came Heracles, or Hercules in Roman mythology, who was nobody else but the great grandson of Perseus.
