She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. She went on to complete a residency in radiology, becoming board certified in 2003. After her residency, Ziemer spent one year as a postdoctoral fellow in oncology at the University of Pennsylvania.
