畫說漢字/圖解《說文解字》/1000個漢字的故事/東漢許慎原著本（běn）“本”是个指事字，指代树木的根部。甲骨文的“本”，上半部是一个“木”字，下面有三个小圆圈，用指事符号来指出草木的根须。小篆的字形中，“本”的字形下部变成了竖线，含义并没有改变。楷体的字形，又在下面加上了一个横画。“本”后引申为事物的源头和基础，如“物有本末，事有终始”，意思就是各种事物都有根源和末流，也都有开始和结束。（草木的根须就是“本”，人的出身就是“本”，爬得再高，走得再远也不能忘本。）
