33. My 14 month old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and PCD in the same week

from The Talking Type 1 Podcast · host Daniel Newman

Send us Fan MailCara's daughter lives with type 1 diabetes after being diagnosed at 14 months old. At diagnosis her daughter was also diagnosed with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) which is a rare, inherited, long-term condition that children are born with and they also found out that her daughter was born Situs Inversus which is a genetic condition in which the organs in the chest and abdomen are positioned in a mirror image from their normal positions. This was an intense period of time for Cara and her family, to say the least. I should also add that Cara was visiting a friend in Scotland from France where is where she lives. In our chat, Cara talks about life with type 1 and PCD, the practical challenges she and her family faced when leaving the UK to return to their home in France, and life afterwards. A poignant part of our conversation was when Cara shares the impact that .5 of a unit of insulin had on her daughter's glucose levels when she was still a baby.
