33. Our Great High Priest: Jesus Understands Our Weakness and Intercedes for Us

Send us Fan MailSince then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.  (Hebrews 4:14-16) (ESV)  This passage shows that Jesus doesn’t just know about our struggles; He has felt them firsthand. Because He understands our weaknesses, we can confidently approach God, knowing we’ll find mercy and grace.Matthew Henry explains it well:“As our High Priest, Jesus is ever living to make intercession. He has finished the work of atonement by His death, and now lives to see that work applied to all who come to God by Him.” Jesus’ work isn’t just in the past—it’s ongoing. He is continually applying the grace He purchased for us.
