33. The Father Wound pt1. An Interview With Garret Kroon

from Fathers Fire · host Jody Sedrick

This week I visit with my good friend Garret Kroon. Garret is a licensed counselor focusing on family and couple therapy. He specializes in anxiety and trauma working with men and young men who have experienced emotional or physical trauma. We discuss what he terms “The Father Wound”; a wound in our heart in the shape of our father. Show highlights: The hole in men’s hearts that they can’t face or it is difficult to face. Men or boys who come in for addiction, anxiety or depression help invariably have a hole in their heart shaped like his dad. Many look for coping skills but what the really need to do is heal the wound in their heart How do men fill that hole? We have to look back Dr. Jonas Web - “Running on Empty” Pushing aside the wounds. “Just buck up” We don’t teach boys and men how to deal with emotions “Isolation masked as nobility” Men hiding our fear, our inability to connect with our loved ones and working all the time or escaping behind the Sports Channel Ten things that help us identify if we have a father wound and ideas to help References in the podcast: Running on Empty: Overcome Your Childhood Emotional Neglect https://www.amazon.com/dp/161448242X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_2ljlEbHZX96F3 No More Mr Nice Guy: A Proven Plan for Getting What You Want in Love, Sex, and Life https://www.amazon.com/dp/0762415339/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BnjlEbJ889DGJ 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos https://www.amazon.com/dp/0345816021/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hojlEbRJV7YMT Man's Search for Meaning https://www.amazon.com/dp/0807014273/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3pjlEbNXVT13V Garret Kroon krooncounseling.com Thank you for joining me every week.
